Antecedentes:

El día miércoles 29 de mayo se votará en el Senado de la República, una iniciativa de punto de acuerdo para exhortar al poder ejecutivo a elevar el status diplomático de Palestina, en concordancia con el voto favorable de México el pasado 29 de noviembre en favor de la inclusión de Palestina como estado observador en la ONU y siguiendo el ejemplo de otros países de la región que así lo han hecho.

A 65 años de la catástrofe palestina

Al Nakba

(1948-2013)

Este 15 de mayo se conmemora el 65 aniversario de la Nakba palestina (término árabe que significa catástrofe). Con esta expresión los palestinos hacen referencia a lo sucedido tras la creación del Estado de Israel el 14 de mayo de 1948. El 29 de noviembre de 1947 la ONU en la Resolución 181 estableció el Plan de Partición de Palestina, que proponía la creación de dos Estados: uno árabe y otro judío.

A lo largo de estos años el territorio palestino se ha reducido en un 80%.  En pocos días Israel consolidó la ocupación del 77% de los territorios palestinos, incluyendo el sector oeste de Jerusalén y fundó asentamientos contrarios al derecho internacional. Esta apropiación de territorios rebasaba con creces los límites previstos para el denominado Estado “judío”. Desaparecieron 500 pueblos árabes y 750,000 palestinos fueron expulsados de sus hogares en forma violenta y cruel. Hoy existe una cifra de al menos 5 millones de refugiados palestinos. Éstos son los rasgos que demuestran el proceso de limpieza étnica que se vive en Palestina, definida por distintos organismos como crimen contra la humanidad.

Son 65 años del inicio de una tragedia que sin embargo, también fue el inicio de una de las páginas más notables en la historia del espíritu de supervivencia, la tenacidad y la resistencia del ser humano ante la adversidad y la injusticia en el cual nos vemos reflejados muchos otros pueblos del mundo como los mexicanos. Contra el deseo y los presagios de los creadores del Estado de Israel en 1948, Palestina existe, prevalece y perdura.

Exigimos al gobierno de México, elevar el status diplomático de Palestina reconociéndola como un estado, en concordancia con los demás países del mundo que ya lo han hecho así y a sumarse a la demanda mundial por el fin de la ocupación israelí y el derecho al retorno de los palestinos expulsados.

Shovrim shtikah: fotos 2003-2013

Traducción: Durante la última jornada miles de personas, en Israel y en el mundo, vieron la foto "compartida" que se encuentra a la derecha: un soldado israelí apuntó su arma contra un niño, lo fotografió y subió la imagen en instagram. En unas cuantas horas la foto se difundió ampliamente en las redes sociales, mientras más y más personas se rebelan contra una manifestación semejante, en la que un ser humano puede apuntar un arma contra un niño sólo para hacer algo "gracioso" y subirla a la red. La foto de la izquierda fue tomada por soldados en Hebrón en 2003 y fue exhibida por "Shovrim shtikah" (rompiendo el silencio), También allí un soldado israelí apuntó su arma contra un niño y lo fotografió con su cámara personal como recuerdo: un gesto que proviene de un sentimiento de poder infinito relacionado con el dominio sobre otro pueblo. Pasaron 10 años. Los artefactos y las aflicciones cambiaron, los sistemas para compartir fotos cambiaron. La sensación de poder extendida (diseminada) y el desprecio punzante por la vida humana y el respeto del ser humano permanecen.
Así se ve la ocupación, así se se veía hace una década y así se ve hoy. Así se ve el dominio militar sobre una población civil.

De la UACM contra el antisemitismo

El pasado 22 de enero, el Posgrado en Derechos Humanos de la Universidad Autónoma de la Ciudad de México, y el colectivo Palestina ya, llevaron a cabo un acto  en solidaridad con el pueblo palestino en la sede Del Valle de la UACM.En dicho acto, una de las integrantes del público, Raquel Rodríguez –, no se desempeña como profesora en nuestra institución- expresó irresponsablemente que “el holocausto fue una gran mentira. Si hubieran matado a seis millones de judíos ya tendríamos la suerte de que no hubiera judíos en este planeta”. La afirmación, además de falsa, es antisemita y tiene que ser rechazada de manera contundente: el odio hacia los judíos, no es una forma cualquiera de racismo; es el antecedente directo de la ignominia nazi.

No hay antisemitismo en las declaraciones de nuestros colegas del Posgrado y rechazamos las calumnias de que han sido objeto. Nos parece, sin embargo, que no fueron suficientemente claros en deslindarse de la señora Rodríguez. El sionismo, por lo menos en sus tendencias dominantes, es una práctica colonial en perjuicio del pueblo palestino. Pero sionismo no es sinónimo de judaísmo.

La negación del exterminio de millones de judíos es una ideología de extrema derecha que en nada ayuda a la causa palestina, sino que, más bien, favorece a los gobernantes de Israel. Repudiamos todos los colonialismos y todos los racismos. Denunciamos, por tanto, cualquier acto de masacre contra los seres humanos: contra los palestinos, por supuesto, pero también contra los judíos, contra los esclavos africanos, contra los indígenas de América, en fin, hacia demás oprimidos de la tierra.

Suscita hilaridad que la rectora Orozco, a quien la Comisión de Derechos Humanos del DF acusa de implementar políticas xenofóbicas, afirme ahora que “la xenofobia es deplorable” lanzando acusaciones estrafalarias contra “el grupo parista”. Rechazamos este nuevo intento de criminalizar a nuestro movimiento e invitamos a la opinión pública a no dejarse confundir.

PERPETUATING HISTORIC VICTIMHOOD BREEDS NEW VICTIMS Jan 23, 2013 Even a cursory review of the Israeli and Palestinian political landscape conspicuously and sadly reveals the overall self-resignation and apathy expressed by many on both sides, strongly suggesting that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is simply beyond resolution. The sorry truth is that while polls consistently show that a majority of Israelis and Palestinians believe that only the co-existence of two independent states offers a viable solution, they still refuse to divorce themselves from a deep sense of victimhood. Both parties continue to define themselves as historic victims, and to nourish a kind of vicarious victimhood which ultimately serves to justify the policies and goals they pursue, however counterproductive they may be to a solution. The genocide perpetrated during the Holocaust was surely something new in history: never before had a powerful state turned its immense resources to the industrialized manufacturing of corpses; never before had the extermination of an entire people been carried out with the swiftness of an assembly line. The question, however, is: does the Jewish people’s unprecedented historical suffering somehow transform them from “victims” to “Victims,” guaranteeing them, and by extension the State of Israel, an unconditional status of moral untouchability? The French philosopher Alain Badiou is right to suggest that we need to question the presumption “that, like an inverted original sin, the grace of having been an incomparable victim can be passed down not only to descendants and to the descendants of descendants but to all who come under the predicate in question, be they heads of state or armies engaging in the severe oppression of those whose lands they have confiscated.” The Israelis’ sense of being Victims has led to a lack of empathy towards the Palestinians’ plight. It has further manifested itself through the usurpation of Palestinian land and a shirking of Israeli responsibility toward the refugee problem, all the while promoting self-righteousness. Israelis who would continue occupying land belonging to a future Palestinian state must realize that we do not and cannot honor the dead when we use their memory, and what they suffered, to dishonor and disinherit the living. For the Palestinians, the experience of the Nakba (the “catastrophe”), precipitated by the 1948 war, was no less calamitous. From their perspective, they were living for centuries in their own land and are absolutely convinced that during the 1948 war, they were forced out of their homes by Israelis– a tragedy that has lasted for decades and which they continue to endure to this day, leaving an indelible impression on their psyche. This traumatic experience has served to bind Palestinians together in the same way that the Jews coalesced following the Holocaust, with each side believing that their tragic historical experiences are unparalleled in scope and magnitude. The Palestinians, as a result, have hardly made any serious effort to appreciate the psychological implications of the Jews’ historical experience. They have either denied the Holocaust altogether, or bemoaned that if it did happen they should not be held responsible or pay any price for the Jews’ historic tragedy—an attitude reinforced by Israel’s building of settlements on their land. Israelis and Palestinians alike (especially those who, like Hamas, seek the destruction of Israel) must become more self-critical in their use of victimhood; both sides need to realize that neither has a monopoly on the position of “the victim,” and neither is granted a morally unimpeachable status as a consequence of their historical experiences or the changed reality on the ground. Israel’s national security concerns, however legitimate, have been used as an excuse for the expropriation of land and expanding the settlements under the guise of creating defensible borders. Successive Israeli governments continue to occupy Palestinian territory and by its own actions offers no sign that the occupation will end any time soon, thereby denying the Palestinians not only a contiguous land mass but also the right to live in freedom and dignity. The Palestinians too (Hamas in particular) must understand that their belief in some day recapturing all of Palestine is an illusion, as is the return of nearly 5 million Palestinian refugees (since that would mean the obliteration of Israel through demographics). Such hopes then cannot be fulfilled if the Palestinians want to coexist peacefully and forsake the use of violence to achieve their political objectives. Neither side’s sense of victimhood can be mitigated by reverting to their historical experiences. It is this state of mind that continues to haunt the majority in both camps while allowing the extremist minority to manipulate the conflict in order to stifle any progress. Together, these sentiments and mindsets inherently endure, particularly when reinforced by Israeli and Palestinian officials’ public narrative that openly promotes the rejection of the other’s claim and rights. Perhaps this explains why Israeli and Palestinian leadership have devised policies and made demands that the other could not accept without abandoning decades-old self-serving political agendas (however skewed) to justify their actions. Moreover, being that Israel and the Palestinians are politically factional, coupled with the lack of visionary and courageous leaders around which they can coalesce, there is little hope that their current leadership, which has lost its moral compass, can change course and accept not only each other’s reality but each other’s rights. For these reasons, the task must now fall on the shoulders of the silent majority in both camps; it is they who must leave complacency behind, go out to the streets by the hundreds of thousands, loudly and clearly proclaim that enough is enough and that the conflict must come to an end. The time has come for the Israeli and Palestinian masses to engage in collective civil disobedience, lasting as long as it takes to force the leadership in both camps to change course and seek a peaceful solution to the conflict. This means, of course, that both sides must break with the mechanical way of reacting to injury or harm; namely, by nursing the hurt and resolving to hurt the other in return. Palestinians and Israelis must forsake, once and for all, this logic of revenge, which insists on holding on to the hurt (the sense of victimhood) and in refusing to let it go traps us in the past. If revenge involves taking a bit of the past and letting it determine our future, in effect we have no future; the success, then, of non-violent resistance absolutely rests on its peaceful nature. The smallest violent incident distracts from the purpose of the message and allows extremists on both sides to exploit such incidents to their advantage. Although civil disobedience must not be limited to women, imagine the impact that tens of thousands of Israeli and Palestinian women demonstrating in every major city will have domestically and internationally. The women who no longer want to see their young children die in vain or deprived of a bright future only to serve a blind cause that has long since lost not only its merit but has been rendered morally bankrupt. Although civil disobedience is essential, it may well be that the Israelis and the Palestinians can no longer resolve their conflict on their own and need an outside power or powers to mediate, pressure, coerce or even threaten both parties to change course before it’s too late. The United States, which has a tremendous stake in the Middle East and enjoys great influence on Israel and the Palestinians, remains pivotal to helping them reach an agreement. Led by Germany, UK and France, the European Union is already preparing a proposal that provides the basis for the immediate resumption of peace negotiations. Outside powers, particularly the US, will have far more leeway and justification to push for a peace plan when tens of thousands of Israelis and Palestinians are on the street demanding the same. Indeed, unless the people who are paying with their own blood, who are making the sacrifices and suffering for it; the fathers and mothers who want their children to grow up in peace, who seek a better future, better prospects and an opportunity to prosper and flourish; those who want to chart their own destiny; they, all, Israelis and Palestinians alike, have the inherent right to dream, hope and live in peace. The United States must support collective acts of civil disobedience by making every effort to facilitate peace. This is what the Israeli and Palestinian silent majority needs and hopes for, but they must first do their share by going to the streets and making their voices heard. The continuation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is now creating a third generations of victims—not the victims of the Holocaust or the victims of el-Nakba but the victims of misguided leaders. Estimada Directora: por este medio solicito la inclusión de este texto en la sección adecuada-

El gobierno israelí, representante de la extrema derecha, ha lanzado hace una semana una brutal campaña electoral. Dentro de dos meses deben realizarse elecciones generales en Israel. Netanyahu y su cofradía de expansionistas confesos, han planificado concienzudamente los actos  que han llevado a la actual situación de muertes masivas. Realizan la acción de asesinar a un líder político- militar de Hamas,el cual había  participado en reuniones con representantes israelíes, con la intención de lograr algunos puntos de acuerdos. El asesinato dio como resultado lo esperado, la reacción violenta de grupo político palestino con la descarga de cohetes. La campaña electoral continúa.  Los ataques y bombardeos al territorio de Gaza han dado como resultado la matanza de más de cien personas, mayoritariamente civiles, de toda edad y género. Por otro lado, tres israelíes  fueron muertos. La excusa israelí es su derecho a la defensa. Hablando de un régimen,  que ha   basado su política de expansión territorial desde 1967. La anexión, ya olvidada y legitimada, de las colinas del Golán, territorio sirio, que ha sido anexado por los israelíes, donde tienen excelentes viñedos, cuyos productos exportan. Asimismo,  la instalación en territorio palestino de centenares de poblaciones militarizadas, con casi un millón de colonos israelíes viviendo y subdividiendo ese territorio, que deberá ser la base de conformación del estado palestino. El ataque contra la población civil, encubierta en excusa del enfrentamiento a la resistencia  armada de Hamas,  los llamados terroristas, es la acción contra el mayor gheto creado, , de más de un millón y medio de personas, por el propio estado israelí. Como potencia ocupante ha realizado una política de bloqueo y encierro de la población palestina, dando como resultado, una situación planificada de desnutrición permanente de la misma, básicamente niños. Ahora, la acción de masacre militar ha llevado a que un 84% de la población israelí apoye las acciones militares, tarea cumplida en la campaña electoral. El cinismo de los gobernantes israelíes es total, ahora exigen que para alcanzar una tregua, los palestinos deben erradicar totalmente  los ataques con cohetes. Si realmente pensaran en la protección de su propia población,  lograr la paz y la seguridad, las medidas a realizar, por su parte, sería  el desalojo inmediato de las colonias y sus colonos armados de territorio palestino, el regreso a las fronteras de 1967, como un acto primario de solución del problema histórico. Dolorosamente, lo que continúa son los bombardeos y las muertes. Pero, en esta campaña electoral, no todo es perfecto,  también se han dado voces  de israelíes que se han negado a participar en el ejército y madres que denuncian y se oponen radicalmente a estas acciones de matanzas como solución del problema. En estas voces se encuentra la esperanza de solución.

Médicos a favor de los derechos humanos - Israel: en el día internacional del niño

24 niños fueron muertos en la franja de Gaza en los últimos seis días. 252 niños fueron heridos, 80 de ellos menores de 5 años. En Israel fueron heridos un bebé y un niño.
Hoy es el día internacional del niño. En este día se pide a los gobiernos que privilegien las necesidades de los niños, escucharlos y darles bienestar y seguridad. El miércoles 14 de noviembre Israel inició un ataque militar en la franja de Gaza. To be imprisoned this morning

 

Today, Monday November 19th, Natan Blanc, a 19 years old Israeli from old  Haifa, will show up at the recruitment bureau, inform officers there of his refusal to serve in the IDF, and will likely be sent immediately to the military prison. His act of conscientious refusal is directly connected to the current situation and the army's acts in Gaza. He took this decision even before hearing the terrible news of five women and four children being killed today by a single Israeli Air Force bomb:

 

I began thinking about refusing to join the Israeli Army during the 'Cast Lead' operation in 2008. The wave of aggressive militarism that swept the country then, the expressions of mutual hatred, and the vacuous talk about stamping out terror and creating a deterrent effect were the primary trigger for my refusal.

 

Today, after four years full of terror, without a political process [towards peace negotiations], and without quiet in Gaza and Sderot, it is clear that the Netanyahu Government, like that of his predecessor Olmert, is not interested in finding a solution to the existing situation, but rather in preserving it. From their point of view, there is nothing wrong with our initiating a 'Cast Lead 2' operation every three or four years (and then 3, 4,5 and 6): we will talk of deterrence, we will kill some terrorist, we will lose some civilians on both sides, and we will prepare the ground for a new generation full of hatred on both sides.

 

As representatives of the people, members of the cabinet have no duty to present their vision for the futures of the country, and they can continue with this bloody cycle, with no end in sight. But we, as citizens and human beings, have a moral duty to refuse to participate in this cynical game. That is why I have decided to refuse to be inducted into the Israeli Army on the date of my call-up order, November 19, 2012.

A message to Israel's leaders: Don't defend me - not like this

As she listens to the rockets mortar bombs raining in her yard, a resident of Kibbutz Kfar Aza asks the government to rethink its operation on the Gaza Strip.

The first thing I want to say is: Please don't defend me. Not like this.

I am sitting in my safe room in Kibbutz Kfar Aza and listening to the bombardment of the all-out war outside. I am no longer able to distinguish between "our" bombardments and "theirs." The truth is that the kibbutz children do this better than I do, their "musical ear" having been developed since they were very young, and they are able to differentiate between an artillery shell and a missile fired from a helicopter and between a mortar bomb and a Qassam. Good for them.

Is this what "defending the home" looks like? I don't understand - did all our leaders sleep through their history classes? Or maybe they studied the Mapai school curriculum or that of Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar (to my regret, the difference is not all that great) - and have wrongly interpreted the word "defense"? Does defending the well being of citizens mean a war of armageddon every few years? Hasn't any politician ever heard of the expression "long-term planning?"

If you want to defend me - then please: Don't send the Israel Defense Forces for us in order to "win." Start thinking about the long term and not just about the next election. Try to negotiate until white smoke comes up through the chimney. Hold out a hand to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Stop with the "pinpoint assassinations" and look into the civilians' eyes on the other side as well.

I know that most of the public will accuse me of being a "bleeding heart." But I am the one who is sitting here now as mortar bombs fall in my yard, not Sa'ar, not Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and not Labor MK Shelly Yacimovich or Yesh Atid party head Yair Lapid, either. I am the one who has chosen to raise her children here even though I had and still have other options.

It is possible to accuse me of a lack of Zionism, it is possible to accuse me of flabbiness and weak-mindedness but it is impossible to accuse me of hypocrisy. My children have served in combat units in addition to their contribution of "year of service" for the country, voluntarily. We live here and we love this country.

Our war is a war for the coloration of the state, not its borders. For its democratic nature and for human dignity in it. For sanity. So please stop killing civilians on the other side of the fence in order to defend me.

If you are interested in stopping the hostile actions from the other side - open your ears and start listening. If we are important to you - please stop defending us by means of missiles, "pinpoints" and "aeronautical components." Instead of Operation Pillar of Defense embark on Operation Hope for the Future. This is more complicated, you need more patience and it is less popular - but it is the only way out.

Netanyahu and Barak have decided to deliberately violate a cease-fire which had just been stabilized.

 

At the price of great and ongoing suffering on both sides of the border, the government's aim  had been accomplished: social issues will be removed from the public agenda and the election campaign

 

"Binyamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak have decided - for the second time in a row the State of Israel will conduct general elections under the shadow of war in the Gaza Strip. The cease-fire which already started to stabilize has been broken deliberately and shattered to pieces. The inhabitants of the communities of southern Israel , who just started to breathe freely, are sent right back to air raid alarms and to running to shelters" said  former Knesset Member Uri Avnery of Gush Shalom.

 

"At the price of great suffering on both sides of the border, the government's aim has been accomplished: the social issues, which threatened to assume prominence in these elections, have been pushed aside and removed from the agenda  of the elections campaign. Forgotten, too, is the brave attempt of Mahmoud Abbas to address the Israeli public opinion. In the coming weeks, the headlines will be filled with constant war and death, destruction and bloodshed. When it ends at last, it will be revealed that no goal has been achieved and that the problems remain the same, or perhaps exacerbated. "
